This comes from St. Kevin’s church in the beautiful and dramatic vale of Glendalough, Co.Wicklow. The cross is the most ancient and powerful of symbols: an encounter of the vertical with the horizontal, the feminine and masculine, temporal and eternal. The circle of the Celtic cross, implying infinity, gives it a cosmic dimension.
This carving by Kathleen Smyth captures the serenity of the original.
Dimensions: 5.5 x 3 inches (14 x 7.5cm)
Meet Our Vendor
Wild Goose Studio was founded in 1970 by two talented artists Brian Scott-McCarthy and Kathleen Smith. In teaming up with other incredible Irish talents, they have made stunning works of art inspired by Ireland’s rich culture. Their process involves creating the physical form of an idea, feeling, or image. An artist then carves it and sculpts his or her artwork, which is reproduced with a mold so that each piece holds all of the artistry and detail of the original piece. After setting the bronze or cast iron piece with a cold cast, it is polished to perfection. Wild Goose artists use their work to reflect Celtic history, which is characterized by beautiful carvings and legendary tales, along with their own unique perspectives.
